The
Atmosphere:
With its newly restored carved-plaster ceiling, baroque
Edwardian woodwork and deep-red draperies, the renovated Oak
Room at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston hotel is as
gorgeous as it ever was. You might dine next to a youthful
couple and their dressed-up, well-behaved kids out to
celebrate a birthday--or the same kids 20 years later feting
Mom and Dad on their anniversary. It's also a place for
chivalric young men to bring their lovers.
The Food:
The menu relies on perfectly grilled, massive slabs of fish
and meat, as well as appetizer classics like oysters
Rockefeller and clams casino. Anything without lots of
natural cholesterol has it added with pools of butter. The
American Heart Association aside, such a dinner once in a
rare while can be a worthwhile treat.
